Real Wedding: Shannon Languille's Colourful Desert Escape
Shannon Langille (@shannanicorn) & Jason Cloutier
Wedding Date: November 16, 2013
How did you and Jason meet?
Jason and I met through a mutual friend - on Wing Night! We sat across from each other and talked all night.
How did he propose?
I'm not a big fan of being surprised in public, and Jason knew that, so when he decided to propose, he did it at home. We were getting ready to go out to our favourite date night, dinner theatre, and he went into the closet to get his jacket as we were leaving. I turned around and he was on his knee, asking me to be his wife. I was shocked, and I think I said, "Are you kidding me?". Of course I said, "Yes!"
What surprised you about a planning your wedding?
Oh gosh, so many things. There are so many choices for every single thing, it can get overwhelming. I decided to go simple for that reason.
Tell us about your wedding. What choices did you make for location, venue, colours, themes, etc.
After months of trying to decide what to do, we grabbed a group of friends and went to Las Vegas! We wanted it laid back and casual. Jason wore a red tuxedo that I had seen at The Tuxedo House and thought was amazing. We chose the Little Church of the West, because the chapel is just adorable. My flowers were circus roses and red dahlias. We had the reception at a restaurant in Vegas that I found on a bridal site, Maggiano's, and we went with a very cool red wedding cake from Retro Bakery that was so amazing.
What was the feeling you wanted your guests to experience as they entered and enjoyed your wedding?
I just wanted everyone to feel relaxed and have fun, but I also wanted it to look elegant. We went with crisp white linens with red accents and circus rose centrepieces, and it looked just lovely.
Did any special touches stand out?
We had cake toppers made to look like us. They are probably one of my favourite things about the wedding. Since our wedding was small (20 people total) we all sat together at one long table and served the food family style.
Are there any mistakes you made that you would correct if you could do it over again?
I would definitely have planned my wedding later in the day. We got married at 2pm,and the sun was so bright that we couldn't take a lot of photos because my eyes were burning. We had to wait until later to get a lot of shots for that reason.
Why did you select the dress you chose? How did it make you feel when you first put it on, and how did it make you feel on your wedding day?
We came to The Bridal & Tuxedo House for the Bridal Gown, Tuxedos, Accessories, Alterations, and Shoes. I selected the dress because it was just, I don't know, it felt perfect. A lot of brides have that crying moment, and I didn't have that, but it felt right. I felt like a princess getting married in that dress. I had a great consultant who helped me choose a style that suited my body. As a petite and plus sized woman, it was hard to find that perfect dress and I needed help. My mother lives in another province and I was shopping for my dress by myself, so Sharon (my consultant) became my mom for the day, and if I ever renew my vows and want another dress, I will come see her again.
If you could pass on one one tip for brides currently planning their wedding, what would it be?
It can be so hard to do, but relax! It's supposed to be fun. And don't try to please anyone but yourself and your spouse.Oh, and eat on your wedding day! I had so many people tell me I wouldn't have time to eat, so I sat down and made sure that I at least tasted everything. Try to drink some water too, that dress is going to get hot and you don't want to get dehydrated.
