Will You Be my Valentine - And My Husband?
February: the month of Cupid and roses, of hearts and chocolates, of Valentines and declarations of love. It’s one of the most romantic months of the year! And what better way to say I love you than to make a vow to love each other forever?
There are plenty of great reasons to book your wedding day for Valentine’s Day (or close to it, if the 14th doesn’t fall on a Saturday). For one, February is off-season, so you should have better choices for venues and vendors, and the prices may be more reasonable too. And Valentine’s Day makes for a beautiful and romantic wedding theme.
A great wedding theme always starts with the invitations. Mimic an old-school handmade valentine, complete with brown craft paper, delicate lace trim and red or pink accents. A heart-shaped monogram stamped on the envelope completes the look. Make the whole invitation heart-shaped, or just use them as a subtle design element. Hearts seem too obvious? Use an arrow motif throughout your stationary and décor as a nod to Cupid’s quiver.
Of course, the obvious choice of colour for a V-Day nuptials is red. But if you want to get creative, try a different shade of red, like deep crimson, or pair it with something unexpected like chocolate brown to really play on the theme. From hot, bright hues to softer blushes, pink is also a versatile Valentine’s hue. How about a pastel coral with gold for a truly romantic pairing? We also love grey paired with pink for a modern, chic choice.
For your floral needs, we love the traditional route. Roses are a clear winner here, and are easy to get in February! Try big garden roses to pack a really big punch, paired with sweet baby’s breath. Keep in mind that February is still chilly here in Alberta, so you’ll want to talk to your florist about which romantic blooms will suit your vision but stand up to the cold during photos.
For your reception, V-Day is all about the sweets. Create a spectacular treat table with chocolates, macarons, cake pops, candy and beautiful heart cookies. Serve spiked hot chocolate and a pretty pink signature cocktail, and dish up chocolate kisses or candy hearts with your initials for favours. Set up a photo booth with cute props like lips and heart-shaped frames, and use lots of little white sparking lights to set the mood! Display frames or chalkboards around the room with famous love quotes (plus some of your own!) in a fancy script font.
When it comes to a gown, it’s all about the romance. Airy chiffon and intricate lace are perfect romantic dress fabrics. Silk and satin are reminiscent of satin-lined chocolate boxes and lingerie for a sexier vibe. Sweetheart necklines, off-the-shoulder straps, lace-up backs, and dramatic trains are all popular dress elements that evoke an air of romance and love.
